New Canaan Embraces National "Safe Routes to School" Program

Safe Routes to School” is a national program regarding providing safe pathways to motivate your children to walk and/or bike to school.  The program, which began in Denmark in1970, has been instrumental in getting towns to improve/build sidewalks, install pedestrian signage, provide additional crossing guards where needed and educate parents and schools on ways to entice children to walk and bike to school safely.

On Friday, May 10th South School and Saxe School will continue our program with “South and Saxe Walk to School Day.”  CERT, DPW Highway and Parks Staff, Teachers, and the Police Department will be stationed at various locations to help monitor and guide the children on their Walk to School.  Please visit the national Safe Routes to School website at saferoutesinfo.org for insight on how the program has motivated towns across the world to get more exercise by walking or biking to school safely.

Looking forward to seeing you walking or biking on the 10th!
