The Historical Review Committee was formed in 2006 with the objective of encouraging the preservation, rehabilitation and reuse of buildings of architectural, historical or cultural significance. This Committee may impose a waiting period of not more than 90 days before the granting of a demolition permit relating to a building which is more than 500 square feet in size and more than 50 years old. The waiting period will permit interested parties time to consider and put forth alternatives to demolition and to preserve historically significant records, artifacts and other items of continuing historical interest. Public notice of applications for building permits for such structures is required and objections to the issuance of such building permits should be filed with the New Canaan Building Official.
