Absentee Ballot Information

On Election Day, Tuesday, November 3rd, CT voters have two voting options: in-person voting, and absentee voting by mail.

There will be safe, in-person voting at New Canaan’s regular polling stations, located at New Canaan High School and Saxe Middle School, from 6:00am to 8:00pm. Masks must be worn to enter the polling place, 6-foot social distancing will be enforced, and election officials will be equipped with PPE.

To vote by absentee ballot, you must first fill out an application. Absentee Ballot (AB) applications will be mailed to all registered voters after October 2nd. You are encouraged to use the postage-paid application you receive by mail because it is bar-coded especially for you, and will help election officials facilitate a smoother process. Fill it out right away, and drop it in the Official Ballot Drop Box outside Town Hall, located at the entrance off the parking lot, or drop the enclosed postage-paid envelope in the mail.

If by September 30th you do NOT receive an AB application in the mail, download an application from our Town Clerk’s “Elections” page on our town website—newcanaan.info. Fill it out right away, and drop it in the Official Ballot Drop Box outside Town Hall for free, or return by U.S. Mail with your own postage affixed to the envelope.

As soon as you receive your ballot, carefully follow the instructions for filling it out, and place it in the Official Ballot Drop Box outside Town Hall, or return it in its postage-paid envelope by U.S. Mail. Note that ballots MUST be received by the Town Clerk, or deposited in the Drop Box, by 8:00pm on Election Day. Absentee Ballots will NOT be accepted at the Polling Places.
