Trade Names

State law requires any person doing business in Connecticut under any name other than their own to register a trade name with the town in which their business is conducted. There are some exceptions to this requirement for corporations and LLCs who are registered with the Secretary of the State. 

Trade name forms can be obtained at the Town Clerk's Office or downloaded and printed here. The fee for filing a trade name is $10.00. 

Certified copies are available for an additional $3.00. You will need a certified copy should you wish to open a checking account under the DBA or assumed name.
