Camp Kidsville- Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 1:15 pm

The Recreation Department sponsored Camp Kidsville is truly a New Canaan tradition for New Canaan children.  Assistant Recreation Director Bill Kapp oversees the staff and program presenting a daily schedule of social interaction, learning, physical exercise, and educational activities all staged in the outdoors at the camp location at South Elementary School.

Staff selection consists of a majority of high school and college kids from New Canaan who may be your neighbors, babysitters and friends.  All are interviewed and selected based on their experience working with children. Pre-camp staff training focuses on camper interaction, bullying, conflict resolution, social skills, fun, friendships, first aid applications/emergencies, and more.  The camp observes a staff to camper ratio of 1/4

The maximum enrollment per session is 24 campers.  A mix of boys and girls are divided between four groups and paired with a trained counselor for the one-week session.

Each session will follow one of three themes- Backyard Bash; Artful Antics; or Aqua Adventure.  The camp daily schedule coordinates camper fun with arts & crafts, sports, earth science-nature, music/singing/games, and creative.  These specialist led activities are pre-selected age appropriate for the campers.  In addition, the one-week session will include special activities of bubbles, squirt gun painting, paint & sip, kids in the kitchen, sports olympics and more.  The Arts section we will use colorful beads as part of our beading activity and it’s a great way to practice our pincer grasp skills and eye hand coordination.  Another activity is the creation of mosaic tile coasters in many different patterns.  Campers will paint river rocks and make animals out of mini marshmallows and raisins.  Shaving cream art is always a big hit and a lot of fun for the campers.  Making sand art bottles has the campers able to see how the different layers of sand look and how to add designs.  Our Kids in The Kitchen activity has us working with food creating fun snacks with a story.  Campers will become superheroes and make their very own superhero shield.  Music section will have campers doing freeze dance and silly dances to music, making musical instruments like shakers and tambourines.  Our Nature curriculum will have campers making their own bird feeders and decorating nature leaves.  For sports we will have games of both personal fun and group competitions.

Compared to other private town camps, Camp Kidsville registration fees are amazingly low and the best deal in town for all to afford.  We work in conjunction with the public schools and social services to provide scholarship fees for qualifying families.  We do not turn anyone away from their chance to attend Camp Kidsville this summer.  We have found the majority of graduating Camp Kidsville (formally Camp Pee Wee) campers continue on the next year to the Waveny Day Camp for continued enjoyment of Recreation Department sponsored summer camps.
