Start Smart Baseball Program - Spring 2020
All children must not be in the Kindergarten grade and also must be age 4 or older before June 1, 2020
Start Smart Programs are created by the National Alliance for Youth Sports and developed by top motor skill development specialists in the field of youth sports to help kids get ready for sports.
Start Smart Baseball is a developmentally appropriate introductory baseball program for children and a parent must accompany each child for the entire 5-week program. The instructional program prepares children and their parents for organized Tee Ball, Baseball, and Softball in a fun environment without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Parent-child groups perform motor skill tasks that gradually build confidence and self-esteem in children while they are having fun in a safe sports environment. Parents spend quality time together with their child while learning how to properly teach skills and support them in Baseball or Softball. Age appropriate baseball equipment from Franklin Sports® and Hasbro® is used to teach throwing, catching, batting, running and agility.
Start Smart Baseball will be held on Saturday mornings from 10:00-11:00 am for 5 weeks April 11 – May 16 (No Class April 18) at the East School Gymnasium. A maximum of 20 participants will be enrolled in the session.
The cost of the Start Smart Program is $120 per child and includes the cost of equipment issued to each child: 1 Glove, 1 Bat and Ball Set, 2 Koosh Balls, a participant manual and a t-shirt. Registration for the program will begin on February 1 online, by-mail, or in-person at the Recreation Department Office in Waveny House. Contact Steve Dayton at the Recreation Department for further information on the Spring Start Smart Baseball Program.
