Programs/Classes/Clinics and Special Events Registration
Programs/Classes/Clinics and Special Events are open to the residents of the Town of New Canaan and registration is coordinated through the Recreation Department Office. Some programs have been selected to include non-residents who attend New Canaan private schools. Program registrations may be received either in office, by mail, or online as described below.
Ways to Register:
In Person- you may register in person at the Recreation Department Office in Waveny House and we will have information sheets and registration forms available. Please observe the office hours posted of Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (closed on holidays). A few special Saturday morning openings will be announced in the Recreation Department Brochure. All information requested on the registration form must be completed and waiver signed by a parent (for child) or the adult (for individual adult). Payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card. Please make checks payable to "Town of New Canaan".
By Mail- you may register by mail but you must first obtain a registraion form either at the Recreation Office or by requesting one be emailed to you. Please pay close attention to program registration deadlines as the Recreation Department does not guarrantee the receipt of mail and problems that may occur with mail delivery or delay. Mail to: New Canaan Recreation Department, Post Office Box 852, New Canaan, CT. 06840. All programs also have online registration for your convenience. All information requested on the registration form must be completed and waiver signed by a parent (for child) or the adult (for individual adult). Payment must be made by check only payable to the "Town of New Canaan".
Online Program Registration- Online program registration is available for many programs through a link on the Town website. These programs will also observe registration start and end dates that will be posted with the program information. Facility rentals and facility pass permit purchases (waveny pool, kiwanis park, mead tennis, waveny paddle tennis) are IN-OFFICE only and require a photo to be taken and a ID card to be printed in the Recreation Department Office. You may browse the site anytime as a guest but must have a username and password issued by the Recreation Department Office in order to register for any of the program offerings. Payment Policy- Payment may be made by cash, check (payable to "Town of New Canaan"), or credit card (in-office or on-line for Visa, American Express, Discover or MasterCard). There is a $25 cash processing fee for all checks returned by the bank.
Scholarship Requests- Full or partial scholarships are available to those with financial need. Do not use the on-line registration process as it will require payment at the time of registration and no refunds for financial assistance will be issued after payment is made. Anyone requesting these services may contact the Recreation Director or Assistant Director for a confidential discussion. Direct contact to the Human Services Department (594-3076) may also be made for scholarship requests.
Day Camp Late Enrollment Fee- Camper registrations within one week of the start of the camp session will be assessed a $25 fee and enrollment is not guaranteed. Forms will be collected, fee paid and held for review with final approval within two days.
Refund Policy Recreation Programs and Permits- Refunds will be processed through the same form of original payment, except cash refunds will be processed by check. No pro-rated partial refunds. Recreation Programs- for all programs other than Day Camp and B/ASF classes, a full refund is given if withdrawal notification is received up to 7 days prior to the program start with return of unused t-shirt, less administrative fee of $5.00. Day Camps-full refund given if withdrawal notification is received up to ten days prior to the session start, less administrative fee of $5.00. B/ASF classes- $5 fee assessed if parent notification to the Recreation Department occurs up to 7 days before the start of the class. $25 fee assessed if notification occurs within 7 days before the start of the class. No refunds will be issued after the class starts. Facility Permits- no refunds on permits for Pool, Kiwanis, Tennis, Paddle.
Enrollment Requirements deadlines and program cancellations- Many programs require a minimum number of participants in order for us to meet the costs of the program. In addition, a maximum enrollment limit must be set based on facility size and instructor requirements. The decision to cancel a program must be made days before the start to assist parents with schedule changes, carpools and school dismissals. Sometimes this is prior to established registration deadlines. Last day and last minute registrations may be met with disappointing program cancellation notices. Not to worry, we will always provide a full refund for cancelled programs. Please consider an early registration for this years programs.
