Class Times-2:45-3:45 p.m.  Children will be sent directly to the classes at the end of the school day.  Children will be dismissed from ASF Programs at the school gym exterior entrance door.  All children will be signature released to parents only.

Late Pick-Up Policy-A late pick-up fee of $20 will be enforced if your child is not signed-out by 4:00 p.m.  After two late fees, a child will be suspended from the class until a meeting is held between the parent and the program director to discuss the problem.  No refunds will be issued.

Fit Kids will challenge your child’s imagination as each child develops muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, postural alignment, and confidence through a series of fun yoga postures balanced with athletic training moves.  Each week students will experience a playful workout set to great music.  Each student will get a yoga mat, lavender towel and water.

This nationally acclaimed program provides lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation.  Students will work together to rebuild ships and design underwater equipment in Deep Sea Mystery.  Using DIY Orbot- students explore circuit boards, motors and gears as they design a remote-control bot.  The Innovation Force module will have students take on roles of engineers, fabricators and innovators to conquer villians.

Run around gym fun with Mr. Walsh playing your favorite activities and games. Tag games, bowling, parachute, hoop games, scooters, sharks and minnows, etc.

Beginner Computer Programming
Grades 2-4; Instructor: Josh MacDonald

Join Mr. MacDonald as he teaches you the basics of programming and game creation using the simple and easy program called "SCRATCH", developed by the MIT Media Institute to create animation, music videos, Pac-Man like games, and more.  You will be designing interactive and fun games and programs that you will be able to play and share!  Using the SCRATCH creator, you will bring your imagination to life on a computer screen!

Making lemonade is a great way to introduce our youngest entrepreneurs to the world of business and it’s fun.  This class empowers kids with an entrepreneurial mindset for their “business” drawing from such disciplines as marketing, finance and strategy in a team environment.  From designing marketing flyers to estimating profits to experimenting with recipes, young students will have fun while engaging in enriching, multi-disciplinary activities with a lasting developmental impact.

Robotics Programming- new class!

Students get to program awesome EV3 Robots and learn to complete missions. We use challenges that prepare you for competition or just for simple fun.  To be the winner in a challenge you may need to use critical thinking and apply it to the design and coding process.  You may need to tinker with your creation and work collaboratively with your team to solve problems and debug a program.  Come and be a Robotics Designer and Engineer for the day.

Dance Around the World- new class!

Dance Around the World is a multicultural world dance class which builds knowledge and understanding of dance styles from all over the globe.  Students will learn dance steps, engage in choreography, and practice movement while briefly learning about the history of the country from which they originated.  A new dance style will be presented each week including Bollywood, African, Hip-Hop, American Folk Dances, Line Dancing, Break Dancing and many more.  No prior dance experience is necessary.

Hot Wheels Racing

Ready, set, race!  We’ll transform the classroom into a racetrack and learn how to make our cars go from fast to lightning speed.  You will build tracks out of new materials and customize your very own Hot Wheels car.  Each day we will drive, race, build, and create together to have fun and learn how Hot Wheels can relate to science.

This innovative class on financial literacy lays the foundation for healthy financial habits early in life, empowering students with the mindset to start making sound financial decisions and develop into responsible global citizens.  Role-playing and fun activities keep students engaged including: currencies of the world; budgeting 101; prices and bartering; check and bank accounts; credit cards and debt cards; and taxes.

Learn Robotics and programming with Ozobots.  These fun filled robots are capable of doing amazing things.  Kids learn the concepts of programming by using Ozocodes where color codes control the behavior of the robot.  Later kids will move into a block-based program where the lessons guide the students from introductory to advanced concepts such as loops, variables, and functions.

Rad Lab Science
Grades K-2; Instructor: Jenn Moore

Join us in the lab this fall as we explore all things STEAM!  Perform ice excavations to discover hidden creatures, engineer colorful absorption towers, and create your own ocean ecosystem model.  Beat the clock while building a stethoscope, drive rovers over a moon-like surface, and make a chemical reaction resulting in glowing goo!  Students new to Rad Lab will receive a lab coat, goggles, and lab notebook.  Rad Lab is where imagination meets investigation!

Chess Wizards
Grades 1-4; Instructor: Damian Donovan, Bedford Chess, Inc.

Join your school chess-mates for a winter of fun matching your skills across the board.  Instruction on opening, middle and endgame with strong emphasis on playing!  Beginners will also learn the moves and rules of chess.  Children will play supervised games and practice the art of checkmate on diagrams tailored to their level.

Special New Class- KIDS CARE Gr. 3-4

Kids Care - 3rd and 4th Grades - 10/2, 11/6, 12/11 - $45/student

Want your child to have fun while learning how their small acts of kindness make a big difference? Kids Care is back by popular demand and will be taught by South School teachers Mrs. Young (formerly, Miss Barbosa) and Miss Mulhern.  These two service-minded teachers with giant hearts  are eager to provide your 3rd and 4th Graders with a fun-filled session of age appropriate service opportunities.  Due to the popularity of this program, parents must sign up for a lottery drawing by completing this google form - Lottery Form  . Parents and students will be notified via email if selected by 9/20/19 and must register on the Rec Dept by 9/30/19 to secure their spot.  The cost of the program will be $45 to cover teacher salaries and supplies. The program will meet from 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm on October 2, November 6, and December 11 at South School and selected students are expected to participate in all sessions. 


General Information and BASF Policies
Class Times- 2:45-3:45 p.m. 

School Dismissal Manager-Your child will automatically be sent directly to any after-school class that he/she is enrolled in at the end of the school day.  If your child will not be attending After-School Fun on any day, please indicate on the school dismissal manager “DO NOT SEND TO ASF TODAY”

Registrations and Wait Lists-The registration period for the classes is posted both online.  A class registration minimum and maximum is established.  Classes that do not meet the registration minimum student number will be cancelled and a full refund will be issued to the parent.  Late registrations submitted after the class begins will be with the approval of the Program Supervisor. No pro-rating of program fees will be allowed.     

Program Monitor-A Program Monitor will be on-duty in the main lobby during the ASF classes.  The monitor will have a first-aid kit and emergency management book. 

Class Cancellation-BOE class cancellations due to school closing, school late opening, or school early dismissal will be sent through the School communications.  The Recreation Department will send out an email notification if a schedule change occurs due to teacher illness, special event conflict, or change of room availability.  On these days, all children enrolled in ASF classes will be sent home the “regular” way.  An automatic adding of a make-up class at the end of the schedule will occur.  THE RECREATION WEBSITE WILL KEEP AN UP-TO-DATE LIST OF CLASSES, INCLUDING CANCELLATIONS AND MAKE-UP CLASSES, ON THE WEBSITE INFORMATION PAGE. 

Refund Policy
$5 fee will be assessed if parent notification to the Recreation Department occurs up to 7 days before the start of the class.
$25 fee will be assessed if parent notification to the Recreation Department occurs within 7 days before the start of the class.
No refunds will be issued after the class starts.
No refunds will be issued if your child is dismissed for inappropriate behavior or suspended because of the late pick-up policy.

NURSE OFFICE AND NURSE SERVICES CLOSED
The school nurse’s office is not open at any time during the before/after-school fun programs And school nursing services are not available.  Items stored within the nurse’s office are not accessible during recreation programs.  The Recreation Department has staff monitors on duty to initiate first responder care for minor issues and activate emergency procedures for all other situations.  Parent communication is 100% part of all incidents.  Any child that has an allergy or a health condition that requires a prescribed emergency medication is required to deliver an emergency response package to the Recreation staff monitors before the first class.  This will be kept in a location for quick response and held for the 8/10-week session of classes and returned on the last day.  In a zip lock baggie labeled with the child’s name place your epi-pen; benedryl liquid or tablets (if liquid include a measuring cup); detailed instructions of the order of application ie. 1. Benedryl  2. Epi-pen.  This should come from your doctor signed by his office.  Also make sure the expiration dates on the medicine are current. Thank you
