Guitar Instruction- gr. 3-8

Youth Guitar Lessons Fall 2020

The New Canaan Recreation Department has announced they will offer beginner or step-two intermediate guitar lessons for boys and girls in grades 3 through 8 beginning in October 2020.
New COVID-19 safeguarding- all students will be required to wear a face covering during the class.  Safe distancing will be enforced.

Beginner Class- come learn to play the guitar in this 8-week program October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, November  5, 12, 19. The Thursday afternoon program will have grades 5-8 meet from 3:30-4:30 and grades 3-4 meet from 4:30-5:30 at the Waveny House. This class will start you on your way to enjoying music and playing the guitar. You don’t even have to own a guitar, one will be provided for you by the instructor for each and every class!  Each of the eight- one hour classes will provide a high level of group instruction in a fun and cooperative atmosphere. Learn cords, scales and theory and best of all, learn to play your favorite songs! Instructor Shane O’Reilly is an accomplished musician who each week demonstrates the versatility of the guitar to his students through live performances. Rental guitars are also available for students to practice their new talent in their home. 

Step-Two Intermediate Class- for those who have completed the beginner class and want to continue with more cords and more great songs. This program will meet on Thursday afternoons for 8 weeks October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19 for grades 5-8 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. or grades 3-4 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Waveny House. Shane O'Reilly will have a qualified assistant to continue the program and work with the young guitarists and rental guitars will also be available. 

The Guitar programs are open to New Canaan residents for a fee of $215. per person. Classes will have an enrollment restriction of a minimum 3 and maximum 6 participants.
