Programs Announcement

A temporary suspension of all current winter and spring youth, adult and senior recreation programs and special events is now in effect.  Programs and classes will resume with future permission from the New Canaan Office of Emergency Management.  

The posted date of April 1st opening sales of aquatic permits and tennis permits has been postponed until May 1st.

April 1st Summer Program registration is also postponed to a later date TBD

April 2nd DEEP Introductory Level Family Fishing Course has been cancelled.

April 4th Breakfast with The Easter Bunny has been cancelled and refunds have been issued to all registrants.

April 18th George Cogswell Memorial Children's Fishing Derby has been postponed

Facilities Update

ORDER BY THE FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF NEW CANAAN CLOSING THE PARKS AND FIELDS OF THE TOWN AND THE NEW CANAAN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

WHEREAS, on March 10, 2020, the Governor of the State of Connecticut declared at public health emergency and civil preparedness emergency for the State of Connecticut in response to the global pandemic of COVID-19 disease associated with a new form of coronavirus that is currently affecting multiple countries and states; and
WHEREAS, on March 17, 2020, the First Selectman of the Town of New Canaan, Kevin J. Moynihan, pursuant to Chapter 14A of the New Canaan Code of Ordinances, declared a local state of emergency; and
WHEREAS, Connecticut General Statutes Section 28-8a authorizes the First Selectman of a municipality in which a major disaster or emergency occurs, or his designee, to take such action as he deems necessary to mitigate the major disaster or emergency;
 NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED, pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes cited above and the declared state of emergency, that all Town of New Canaan parks, turf and grass fields, and trails, and all playgrounds and outdoor athletic facilities at such parks, including Waveny platform tennis courts, Spencer’s Run Dog Park, baseball fields, tennis courts and concession stand at Mead Park, fields and trails at Irwin Park, all facilities at Kiwanis Park, and all other park facilities, and all fields and outdoor athletic facilities on the grounds of the five New Canaan Public Schools, including all playgrounds and basketball courts at Saxe Middle School and the elementary schools and the track, tennis courts and Dunning Stadium at New Canaan High School are hereby closed immediately through April 30, 2020.

Waveny House, Recreation Department Office, and the Lapham Community Center are CLOSED.

The Carriage Barn Arts Center and the Powerhouse Theater are both CLOSED.
