The Town of New Canaan operates five Platform Tennis Courts in Waveny Park. Access to the courts remains within Waveny Park on the road leading to the Lapham Community Center. All players must have a current season permit to use the courts. The platform tennis season begins in October and ends in July. Reservations are required for the use of the courts and may be made up to two days in advance. Guests may play with a permit holder present. AFTER YOU PURCHASE YOUR PASS ONLINE, WE WILL PRINT THE INDIVIDUAL ID CARDS AT THE RECREATION OFFICE AND LEAVE THEM FOR PICK UP AT THE PADDLE COURTS BEGINNING THE FIRST DAY OF THE SEASON OCTOBER 8th. 

Season Permits and Fees
The Platform Tennis Courts will open for the season in early October through mid-April. Permits for the 2022-2023 season are available beginning September 1 to New Canaan residents and must be obtained in advance online through the Recreation Department website as no permits will be sold at the courts. These permits entitle the individual the privilege of using the Paddle Courts at Waveny Park for the 2022-2023 season.  This Photo ID Card must be presented to the court attendant before each use with no exceptions. Card holders must present their Photo ID Card to sign in a guest. The lost pass/reprint fee is $5.

After you purchase your season permit ONLINE, we will print your pass and messenger it over to the Paddle Court Lodge for you to pick-up with the attendant on duty. 

Adults Permit:(18 to 61 years of age) allows full privilege of using the courts - $150
Senior Citizen Permit: (62 years of age and older) - $80
Youth Permit: (17 years of age and under) - $40
Family Permit: includes permits for mother, father, and children (age 17 and under) $300
Limited Play Permit: this permit is discounted at the purchase and requires the person to pay an additional $5. (credit card payment only) to the attendant each time they play.  This permit is suitable for an adult who will play less than 8 times the entire season.- $80 

Guest Fees: The charge for an adult guest is $10.00 (credit card payment only) per hour and must be paid to the attendant prior to play.  Guests may only play with a permit holder present on the court.

FACILITY USE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE WAVENY PARK PADDLE COURTS

PERMITS FOR WAVENY PARK PADDLE TENNIS COURTS
Any bona fide New Canaan resident or town employee will be entitled to a Platform Tennis Permit upon application to the Recreation Office, submission of satisfactory proof of eligibility, and payment of the fee required. A photo identification card system is in effect. A photo of each individual will be taken at membership registration. This photo ID card must be presented to the court attendant prior to play. Permit cards are not transferable. Misuse of an individual permit will result in permit cancellation. Examples of this include someone other than the permit holder using the permit through play or the court reservation system. The lost pass/reprint fee is $5.00 per card.

SEASON PERMIT CLASSIFICATIONS
Adult Permit: This permit entitles eligible adults (age 18 through 61) the privilege of using the Paddle Courts at Waveny Park for the season.
Senior Citizen Permit: This permit entitles senior citizens (age 62 and over) the privilege of using the Paddle Courts at Waveny Park for the season.
Youth Permit: This permit entitles eligible youths (age 17 and under) the privilege of using the Paddle Courts at Waveny Park for the season.

  • Saturday and Sunday 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

COURT RESERVATIONS AND RULES
Permit holders may reserve a court by any of the following methods:
Unrestricted 24 hours a day Online Reservation- Court Reservation Click Here 24 hours a day, anywhere internet access is available, you may make a court reservation using your access email address and password (your permit number followed by your last name- no spaces).  The online reservation system will also allow you to manage your reservation(s) by changing a time or court cancellation.
Telephone (203-594-3621) and In-Person reservations- limited to the following times
Monday-Friday 8:30 am - 1:30 pm; 5:00 - 10:00 pm
Saturday 8:00 am – 9:00 pm
Sunday 8:00 am - 8:00 pm

COURT TIME RESERVATIONS ARE 60 minutes or 90 minutes except for the restricted times below:

  • MONDAY-FRIDAY (MORNING) 90 MINUTE TIME BLOCKS ONLY 9:00-10:30 OR 10:30-12:00
  • MONDAY-THURSDAY (EVENING) 90 MINUTE TIME BLOCKS ONLY 7:00-8:30 OR 8:30-10:00 

Players must be present to take their court at the start of the time block reservation or the court becomes a forfeit after five minutes.  Changing from an assigned court is not permitted without first checking with the attendant. 

GUEST PRIVILEGES
All guests must be signed-in with the attendant on duty BEFORE PLAYING ON THE COURTS and a one- time daily guest fee is $10.00 (credit card payment only) and must be paid BEFORE PLAYING ON THE COURTS. This fee enables a guest to play anytime that day with a permit holder. All guests must be accompanied by and play on the same court with a permit holder.

CANCELLATION POLICY AND PENALTIES
Unless the courts are closed by the Recreation Department due to bad weather or unplayable court conditions, permit holders are expected to show for play at the time of their reservation. Players must be present to take their court at the start of the time block reservation or the court becomes a forfeit after five minutes. Permit holders have the responsibility of canceling their court by telephone (203-594-3621) with the Paddle Court Attendant or online through the reservation/cancellation system. As a courtesy to all court users, this cancellation must be made as much in advance as possible to allow someone else to book the open court. Permit holders reserving a court who fail to show up and play or fail to cancel their court(s) in advance by telephone or online will be in violation of the court reservation rules. The following penalties will be incurred to the permit holder: First Offense= may not obtain a court for 2 days. Second Offense= may not obtain a court for 2 weeks. Third Offense= revocation of permit.

GENERAL RULES
All players must be properly attired at all times. They must wear shirts and wear proper tennis shoes or sneakers as approved by the Paddle Tennis Court Attendant. PLEASE, NO BOOTS.

The court lights are set on a timer to be used at dusk and will automatically shut off around 10:00-10:15 p.m. each evening. If you are the last group to use the courts for the night, please turn the court lights off when you exit the court.  

The Recreation Department will make every effort to clear the courts of snow and ice. At times, due to weather conditions, a limited number of courts will be available. Please do not use metal shovels, ice melt or salt to clear the courts of snow or ice.

Children not participating in the game are not permitted on the courts.

Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the courts.

Dogs are not permitted on the courts.

Please do not smash racquets against the screens or nets.
