High School Building Committee
What We Do

The Committee's mission is to oversee architectural and related design services for the renovation of New Canaan High School, evaluate the available options, make recommendations to the Town, appropriate funds for the approved project, manage the bid and award process, and oversee the construction until completion.

Why is there a Committee?
New Canaan places a high value on education. It is one of the most often cited reasons that people have moved to our town. Certainly, it is also one of the major reasons that our home values are so dependably high. How do we maintain the quality of that education? The high school building infrastructure has seriously degraded and, at times, impacts building function. Additionally, the student population increases that initiated the elementary and middle school renovations are soon to reach our high school.

What do these two factors mean for the quality of secondary education here? Without renovation, an increased student population will experience difficulties - some small and some large.

For these reasons, in April 2002, the Board of Selectmen appointed a Building Committee.
