Marriage licenses can be issued by the Registrar of Vital Statistics (Town Clerk) of the Town in which the ceremony is to be performed or now from the bride or groom's town of residency. If the latter is chosen, proof of residency must be presented (a valid driver's license or utility bill, for example). Premarital blood tests are no longer required in the State of Connecticut. Both the bride and the groom must appear together, present photo identification and take an oath in the presence of the Registrar of Vital Statistics or Assistant Registrar. When applying for a license, both the bride and groom need to know their own social security numbers, their mothers' maiden names, and their parent's place of birth. They will also need to know the name, exact title, and telephone number of the person officiating at their wedding. The license is then good for 65 days from the date of the application. Marriage licenses can be obtained at the Town Clerk's Office
Please allow an hour for processing if you wish to get your license the same day. After the ceremony, the license should be returned to the Town Clerk of the Town in which the ceremony was held.
