Birth Certificates

 
Birth Certificates are confidential in the State of Connecticut and access to certified copies is restricted to:

  • The individual (if over 18 years of age)
  • The Parent of
  • The Spouse of
  • The Child of
  • The Grandparent of
  • Title Searchers, and Attorneys with restrictions

You may request a certified copy in person at the Town Clerk's Office, or through the mail by filling out a Birth Request Form

Applications by mail must also include a photocopy of the applicant's driver's license. If your name is different on your driver's license (e.g. married name), then you must provide us with a certified copy of your marriage license or your own birth certificate. Additional documentation may be required.

Two types of certified copies of births are available. Both have raised seals.

  • The Short Form - which only lists name, age, gender, date of birth and place of birth; and
  • The Long Form - which is the exact photocopy of the original on file and will list all personal (e.g. Social security numbers) and family data (place of birth of parents, etc).

The fee is $10.00 per certified copy made payable to the Town Clerk.
