FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My water pressure is low (or anything else is wrong with water supply). Can you correct this?

The Town does not own the water system.

If you are connected to the public water supply, call the Aquarion Water Company, formerly Bridgeport Hydraulic Company, at 203-337-5910 or 800-732-9678 (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday).  For after hour emergencies, call 800-732-7678.

If you have your own well, you need to call a private service company.

Can you help me find the location of my property lines?

No. We are not licensed surveyors. Some information may be available from land records filed in the Town Clerk's office; however, it may be difficult to interpret. A licensed surveyor is the least risk alternative.

Does the Town pick up Christmas trees?

No. Residents are required to bring these to the Transfer Station. Click here Transfer Station to go to the Transfer Station pages.

I live on South Ave. Can you remove some dead branches from a tree in front of my house?

No. South Avenue is a state road which is maintained by the State. Call the State Department of Transportation at 203-972-0388. Note the following examples of state roads:

Route 106

Route 123

Route 124

I'm new in Town. How do I get a sticker for using the Transfer Station?

Go to the Transfer Station with some proof that you are a New Canaan resident and they will issue a sticker. You can call the Transfer Station at 203-972-0181 to determine what documentation is considered proof of residency.

I would like to place a dumpster on the street in front of my property for a short period of time while construction modifications are being performed on my property. Who do I contact?

Call the Police Department at 203-966-2626 to obtain a verbal authorization. It is of utmost importance to advise them as to a 24 hour contact person (with phone numbers, address and other pertinent information) who is responsible for the dumpster, should it be necessary to be removed on short notice.
