TRIAD The New Canaan TRIAD is a program involving members of the senior community, law enforcement, and other interested parties. Based on a national program started in 1988 by the AARP and the National Sheriffs Association, TRIAD uses a partnership between the community's older citizens, and members of the law enforcement community to deal with issues that are unique to seniors. The goal of TRIAD is to conduct crime prevention activities, provide education to seniors about personal safety issues, to address crime trends that target seniors and to listen and act on the concerns of seniors. TRIAD can also frequently serve as a resource manager to help seniors get help they need from other government agencies and private organizations. Residents of the Town of New Canaan are served by it's own TRIAD S.A.L.T. Council. The S.A.L.T. Council is comprised of members of the New Canaan Police Department, interested city seniors and business members from the community, other interested parties. S.A.L.T., which stands for " Seniors And Law enforcement working Together", is the centerpiece of TRIADS goal and mission. During S.A.L.T. Council meetings seniors bring forth concerns that seniors in the community have about crime, traffic, and quality of life issues. The S.A.L.T. Council then works together to try to address the need, problem or concern. For more information about the TRIAD program or to volunteer, please contact Officer John Milligan or Officer Roy Adams at the New Canaan Police Department (203) 594-3500. |
